4.0 out of five stars still Another Hair Trimmer This One Distinguished By A distinctive And Practical Design, June 29, 2011
By K. Harris “Film aficionado” (Albuquerque, NM) See all my reviews
(TOP ten REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Braun Cruzer six facial hair and Head Cruzer, six facial hair and Head Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () As hard as I may attempt, it is hard to muster up extreme enthusiasm over a hair trimmer. It is not that they are not essential, they are the Braun Cruzer is about the 6th such device that I have owned. But on a working review (especially on a product in such a competitive marketplace), if something does what it’s supposed to do that is a four star ranking. You must be totally special, distinctive or efficient to stand out when hundreds of shavers exist in retail venues. Well, the Braun Cruzer did (surprisingly) surpass my expectations and my initial impression could award the device four 1/2 stars. As with any electronic product, but, the true test comes with time and usage so I am going to round to four stars till I can make an efficient declaration of how the shaver holds up to continued handling.

Admittedly, I have not generally gone with the state of the art alternatives in my trimmers. Cost has generally factored into my choice making process I just can not bring myself to indulge in the high end shavers. The Cruzer is nicely placed in the mid range cost group. You may be able to surely get cheaper, but it is also easy to use up more! The affordability is a talking point for me, but, because the distinctive design makes this seem like a costly choice.

The most distinctive part in the Braun Cruzer is that there are fewer attachments and more real settings. There’s a hair comb and a facial hair comb both easily snap and lock into place. Then you really change the razor itself to get the proper length setting. It is so simple and ingenious, but was totally new to me. The trimmer, for more detail work, also slides out. While I rarely sport a facial hair or fashionable stubble, I can see how this could be invaluable to maintaining a consistent length. And the fact that it’s nearly idiot evidence is an added blessing. I have been happy so far with the Braun Cruzer, but if something develops (either good or bad we’re still in the honeymoon period) I’ll make sure to update the review and hopefully kick it up to five stars if it holds up to lasting handling. KGHarris, 6/11.

3.0 out of five stars A Good Product, But Not A Great Product, July 8, 2011
By Charlie Courtland “Bitsy Bling Books” (Seattle, WA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) This review is from: Braun Cruzer six facial hair and Head Cruzer, six facial hair and Head Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () The pro’s of this product include being lightweight, which makes its easy and less tiresome to use and also that it’s cord free. No more extension cord to get wrapped, hooked, or tangled with other merchandise on the counter. Compared to other trimmers, this product is safe. It really looks impossible to cut yourself and that’s without using the blade guard. It can cut exact lines and the trimmer height modification makes it easy to perform taper and fading of short hair.

The con’s of this product include that the motor is underpowered. The device requires recurrent cleaning. Hair gets caught in cutting blades and throughout a single haircut (military style) short hair the blade had to be cleaned approx. Six times. This caused many of stopping and starting to offer cleaning maintenance throughout cut/trimming. It was more hard to trim hair around ears.

All in all: This is a more ideal product for facial hair trimming rather than cutting short head hair. If this is the buyers major function, it’s an excellent product. If you are hoping to have a more common tool that can perform both tasks (beard and head), this may not be the one for you.

This specific trimmer has been used to cut short (military style) head hair of normal thickness.

4.0 out of five stars A great, movable hair trimmer, July 10, 2011
By D. A. Ross (Minneapolis, Minnesota USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Braun Cruzer six facial hair and Head Cruzer, six facial hair and Head Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () previous to using the Braun cruZer6, I had been using the Philips Norelco T980, which is a superb trimmer. As such, my review can be somewhat predisposed, having earlier enjoyed the Norelco. That notwithstanding, the Braun cruZer6 is a great trimmer in own right, so let me point out many of the pros and cons:

PROS:
Easy use to change through six different blade lengths, and the extra attachment for the head is easy to snap in place
Sideburn accessory is useful for keeping the ‘burns neatly trimmed
Comfy ergonomic design feels great in the hands
Cleaning is easy, as this unit may be rinsed under water. Blade oil is included, for just such a purpose
The interior rechargeable batteries hold a charge for a decent total of time (just under an hour, so more than a week of normal use)
May be used with or without the cord
Blades are pretty sharp and don’t pull hairs
Fast 60 minute recharge time is convenient
Operation is pretty quiet
Travel pouch and charger make for an easy to travel with item
Two year warranty

CONS:
No hair collector part, which could have been great for keeping the bathroom sink clean
As many have already declared, the rechargeable batteries aren’t replaceable, which is a certain strike against
Could gain from a somewhat more powerful motor, as many hairs may be a little too thick and stubborn for the Braun on the 1st not many passes
Price point can be a bit high for this product, particularly considering there’s no Lifetime Warranty

Keep in mind that if your meant use is for a body hair trimmer, the Braun Cruzer doesn’t shave the skin totally smooth as that isn’t in its meant design. But if you’re seeking a trimmer to crop and maintain facial, head or body hair, this is a great tool to have and a great gift idea!

5.0 out of five stars A review on the quality of the cut only., January 2, 2006
By Brandon Solomon “Nomolos” (N. Va, USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Andis Professional 04710 T Outliner Personal Trimmer (Health and Beauty) I can not comment on the life of these clippers as I just have bought my set not a week ago.

I can, but, comment on the quality of the cut. I have very sensitive skin and have had to endure the shadow look on my face for some years as I have left the razor behind and moved to facial hair and mustache trimmers, but none of them have been able to get as close to a razor as the Andis T Outliner has. I use it on my head and face and people have begun to doubt my sensitive skin excuse as the quality of the cut looks to be of razor quality. I also dont have to worry about the bumps that could usually appear when a cut is this close.

I have already bought another set of these as they were on sale also as many machine oil. NEVER FORGET TO OIL YOUR CLIPPERS. The fate of my facial hair and mustache trimmers was grim because I didnt oil them as on a regular basis as I should have. I’m happy for it now, but imagine how much longer than 4yrs they could lasted if I had taken correct care of them.

UPDATE: it is been five years now and I still own this same set of clippers. Once, they stopped working, but it turned out that the screw on the side had changed positions and needed readjustment. After that, everything was good. I did go through a bunch of clipper heads in the beginning, till I learned how to properly clean and care for them. The clipper head I have now is over 2yrs old and just as sharp as the day I bought it. As for that second set I got (my ‘just in case’ set), I keep it in my shave bag for when I travel.

Once again, you wont regret this buy. In fact, you will only do yourself a disservice by not to get them.

5.0 out of five stars Awesome., December 14, 2006
By sunshinestate buyer (Orlando, Florida) See all my reviews This review is from: Andis Professional 04710 T Outliner Personal Trimmer (Health and Beauty) I owned these clippers for almost a year. They cut just as exactly now as they did when I bought them new. The large blade is nice and requires less strokes. I use these clippers about once a week to clean up my fade/blowout. They cut really thin, as thin as the barbers, only they’ll not cut razor thin. I have still to see anything that does cut razor thin besides a razor. These clippers are the closest you may be able to get to a barber bench for your home. I’m so sold on the quality of this brand/line that I just bought the “Improved Master Clippers” to accompany my “T Outliner”. It set me back a hundred bucks but if it’s at all like the T outliner than I’ll be very happy. You get what you pay for and oh yes, do not forget to keep them oiled!

5.0 out of five stars marvelous, May 12, 2007
By Matthew Silver (baltimore,md) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) i bought these trimmers a couple of weeks ago, and in comparison to everything else ive used on my face for a close cut, these certainly are the best. Particularly for the mustache and outlining the forehead and neck.

5.0 out of five stars Shaving Bliss., September 24, 2010
By IAMSLICK See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) () This review is from: Braun Series 7 760cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Black and Silver (Health and Beauty) I have had the benefit of owning the Braun 3 390cc, 3 370, and now the 7 760cc.All in the last four months. Before this I owned the 8585 Activator, and before that the 6520 Flex Integral. Before that I forget, but I have been shaving with Braun shavers for about 20 years. They rarely go bad.I just get enticed to purchase the new technology.

I bought the 3 390cc about four months ago. Before I had a chance to give it a correct review, TSA lost my shaving kit while inspecting my baggage, and so my shaver was gone. This shaver lacked power. If I skipped a day of shaving, it really bogged down on two days worth of stubble. I felt like I had to have my face five times to get everything. And the cleaning system was underlying. If you dropped the shaver into the cleaning system and pressed the button to latch it in there, it cleaned the shaver automatically, if it was dirty or not. If you just cleaned it some hours ago. No “sensing technology”. I do not believe the 3 390cc cleaner had a heated dry either because it could still be wet with the alcohol solution 6 8 hours afterward. As well, after only three months there was a build up of scum in the cleaner where the shaver sits. I opened up the shaver’s blade cartridge a couple of times and it still had some whiskers in there. I most likely could rated it three stars.

Since TSA lost my 3 390 shaver, but I still had the cleaning system at home, I bought a standalone 3 370 with no cleaning system. I learned quickly it did not work with the cleaning system from the 3 390cc. I inquired with Braun (P&G) and they said it should, but it did not, so I sent it back. The 3 370 shaves exactly like the 3 390. I think it has one less LED display, and that is it.

I decided this was a sign that I required to look higher up in the Braun shaving lineup. I am amazed I found this shaver because Amazon’s search engine is so quirky and does not supply this shaver as an choice in the Braun Store. This is by far the best looking Braun shaver I have ever seen, and can be the best in general shaver I have ever owned.

The 7 760 is more powerful than the three Series shavers. I shaved two days worth of stubble today like a hot knife goes through butter. This shaver has easily cut my shaving time in half. It does a much better job with neck hair that lays flat and is hard to get. The Pulsonic technology vibrates and nearly gives you a face massage while you are shaving. Braun recommends that you set the Pulsonic strength level to high for the best shave, and they’re right. I have noticed that this shaver lets me to get closer to my chin facial hair without pulling any of the whiskers out (ouch!). It has a more exact feel to it. The pop out trimmer is a little strange, but I have gotten used to it already and it does a great job.

The 7 760 cleaning system is much better too. It senses the level of cleaning needed and reports what level cleaning it wants to do via an display light, but waits till you really push a “GO” button. I really like this new feature because my 8585 had this sensing technology, but proceeded with cleaning once you dropped the shaver into the cleaning system. The 7 760 cleaner is built more like the cleaner from the 8585 Activator, and I think it does a better job than the new style of cleaner that comes with the three Series. No scum is accumulating in the cleaner, and not a single whisker is left in the shaver after it’s done with a light cleaning. If you clean the shaver ever day it appears that it never has to do a deep cleaning, because I have not seen one still.

Braun is skimping on the case and brush these days. The case is the same for the 3 370, 3 390 & 7 760. The 7 760 gets a bit bigger brush, but that is it. No room in the case to take along the power cord. The cleaning systems for each model use the same Clean & Renew refills, which is nice.

All in all, I recommend this shaver. If you have tried a cheaper Braun and are not happy, take them up on their 60 day money back offer and get this one. I think you will see a big difference. I wish the 7 760cc did not cost me $220, but it appears I am an early adopter, so maybe the price will come down.

1.0 out of five stars Good Razor worthless warranty service., July 25, 2011
By LDM (DC, USA) See all my reviews () This review is from: Braun Series 7 760cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Black and Silver (Health and Beauty) Before you purchase a gadget this complicated you may want to think about if it’ll really work and if the maker will stand behind it when it fails. This works good as an common razor. But the motivation for paying so much money is the auto cleaning system. Well, I have news for you that part is a part of badly conceived, badly engineered, and badly executed junk. The problem isn’t just that the autocleaning function doesn’t properly clear itself of cut hair, but also that the system itself will simply die on you unexpectedly. In my case after about four months of use. Of course the razor still works if you plug it in straight to charge the battery, but the loss of the maintenance system is a serious hit to utility.

Worse, when you go to get the thing fixed you find there’s no practical or convenient place to go. Braun doesn’t maintain company supported service centers in the US and rather depends on a disorganized set of randomly and badly available private vendors. As an example, nobody services Braun shaver merchandise in DC or MD. The only servicers are private businesses in Wilmington and Virginia Beach. So the only way to get this fixed is to deal with someone three hours away who is not a Braun expert. The company itself gives NO SUPPORT to its customers. This is a BIG FAIL.

4.0 out of five stars many nice enhancements, shaves about the same., November 14, 2010
By Nathaniel Allen (Oakland) See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Braun Series 7 760cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Black and Silver (Health and Beauty) I replaced a 4+ year old Braun 8985 “Series five Pulsonic 360″ with the newly released 7 760cc 4. Braun, why the confusing numbering? Seriously, the “dash 4″ designation that comes after the 760cc is printed in such a way on the box that you really must be looking for it to notice it. If you are not a cautious buyer, you may end up with the last “dash 3″ variant with the white base. From the descriptions I have read, there is not a whole lot of difference between the two variants expect the same shaving performance but again, Braun, why the complicated numbering schemes?

Rather than write about the performance of this shaver, which is no different than Braun shavers that came before it, and covered in hundreds of other reviews, I want to point out many of the differences from my 8985 and the other Braun shavers of that generation, for those of you considering substitute.

The shaver itself is much smaller in diameter and easier / more comfy to grip. This was easily my biggest complaint of the old Braun shavers the grip area was alike in cross section to a big bar of soap, and I really noticed it having switched over from a pretty slender & comfy Panasonic. The hard plastic outside is covered in a somewhat cushy rubberized covering. The in general ergonomics of the 760cc are imminently more hand friendly.

The old slider switch (you know On > Lock the pivoting head > Trimmer pop up) was replaced. The new power switch is a glowing on/off push button affair. On either side of the push button are silver + and buttons to control the shavers speed in three steps. With each change in speed, the power button glows more dimly or brightly. This, I believe, is the 3 stage “personalization mode” referenced in the product description. A bit bogus, I believe, unless you shave at other than full speed. In fact, their user manual recommends something to the effect of, “leave it at the ‘+’ (full speed) position for day to day shaving”. Despite, it’ll turn on in whichever of the three settings you turn it off in.

Speaking of the pop up trimmer, the trimmer is disassociated with the power switch, and pops out from the shaver body. Its cutting surface is about half the length of the old one, i.E. Small. I am trying to get used to it. The old trimmer took many practice to orient properly while looking in the mirror, but overall, the shaver body itself was kept vertical. I only had to work at to get the shaver level around one axis. This new one jeez, it sticks out from the shaver body at some at angle, and the cutting surface is arced a little like a kitchen chef’s knife, and so I am struggling a bit to turn it three different ways to get a straight cut while looking in the mirror. Most likely a bit funny to watch, and hopefully I will grow more accustom to it as the weeks wear on. Trimming cleanly around the ears is challenging.

The pivoting head may be locked in place with a slider switch now located on the side of the head.

The form of the shaver, overall, is somewhat banana contoured. The shaving head itself is canted inward not the straight “candy bar” approach of the older generation. Nice ergonomic change, though subtle.

The charge display is not just an LED there is now a whole clock dial type affair on the butt end of the shaver (or the top of the shaver when it is docked in the charging base). Moving around the dial, it shows 100/80/60/40/20 charge with a separate LED underneath each number (20 flashes red). Truthfully, a bit gimmicky particularly since it completely charges in an hour. This clock face also has an LED lit reminder icon to replace the shaving foil & blade, which ought to illuminate every 18 months.

On the subject of charging, this model uses Li Ion battery cells and Nickel Hydride in the last variant. Both have a claimed 50 minute run time, and both charged in one hour. And the old model was still running pretty strong after four years of uninterrupted use. I think the real improvement here was Li Ion gives equivalent performance in a smaller, lighter package. It appears the shaver doesn’t top off the charge every time it’s set in the base, but instead charges only when the battery drops below some charge level. I assume this is done for battery longevity, but I do not know how to override it if I’d like a completely charged battery to take on a trip.

Edit 11/22: I can be wrong on the battery charging; not sure. I have still to see my battery drop into the 80 range. So though the charging indicators go black when the base unit goes to sleep after ten minutes (see below), maybe it is still topping off the battery? Not sure.

The base unit changed a bit, but it still does the same old thing as before. Same Clean and Renew cartridge refills. Cartridges slide in with a little resistance now, nearly as if they are locking in place, but eh, what for? The push to clean / push to unlock switch of yore was replaced with a big round “start” button. That means the shaver is not physically latched into the base when cleaning. The graphics are modified (gone are the “Eco,” “Normal” and “Intensive” cleaning cycle indicators, replaced with icons of 1 drop, 2 drops and 3 drops of cleaning solution). There is a “check mark” graphic that illuminates when the cleaning cycle is complete. Cleaning & heated drying takes 35 to 45 minutes, based on which cycle is (automatically) selected.

The cleaning cycle is 1/2 as calm. The pump that circulates the cleaning solution is pretty close to silent no more whiny squeal. But when the shaver switches on it is as deafening as it was earlier, which was about as deafening as the whiny squeal of the circulation pump. Like I said, half as deafening. :)

An annoyance with the base unit is that it powers down after ten minutes of inactivity. Walk away from it, and when you return, the only LED illuminated will be the one showing the liquid level left over in the Clean and Renew cartridge. The illuminated charge display and the “check mark” LED showing completion of the cleaning cycle go black. I am sorry, but I can not believe that turning off one or two LEDs is really saving anything but the most insignificant token total of electricity. Why they bothered with a “cleaning cycle complete” LED is beyond me if it is only going to be lit for ten minutes following completion of the cycle.

Edit 11/22: Ok, so it seems like I was wrong the liquid level display is lit if the shaver goes in bent and does not maintain a connection with the charging contacts. Otherwise, the blue power button on the shaver itself is the only LED lit. When that happens, one press of the giant “Start” button on the base will get everything lit up again, showing if the cleaning cycle was finished and showing the charge level of the battery.

The cord still can plug directly into the shaver for travel. The power connector is a 90 plug that hugs the body of the base unit, not sticking straight out as it does on the older models, making it easier to set against the wall on a narrow bathroom counter. The shaver still comes with a travel case, though it is a zippered / soft shell deal now (in many ways a nice improvement, as long as my shaver does not really switch on while filled in my luggage). The cleaning brush has grown quite dainty thimble sized, you may say but, to counter that, this new model has better waterproofing so can more easily be rinsed out under the faucet. Though I never had a problem nor hesitation in water rinsing the old one when I took it on the road.

Most importantly, the 760cc looks to shave about the same as the 8985 it replaced. And , that is what matters. Not quite as close as a razor, but good enough to get me through the day.
